Dutch Meatloaf

Dutch Meatloaf

The origin of this recipe is Pennsylvania Dutch. My mother made this often and was always a family favorite. It makes great sandwiches the next day.

Ingredients

  • 1 and 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1 cup of chopped onion
  • 1- 15 ounce can of tomato sauce, divided
  • 1 egg-beaten
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons each of salt and pepper
  • 1 cup of bread crumbs

Sauce:

  • 9 ounces of the tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons prepared mustard
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 cup of water

Instructions

Mix all the ingredients together using only 4 ounces of the tomato sauce to form a loaf. Place in greased baking dish.  Start baking at 350*.

In a small bowl, mix sauce ingredients together.

Bake for 30 minutes.

Pour sauce over meat loaf and bake for another 15 to 20 minutes. Baste the meat loaf again with the sauce and continuing baking for another 15 minutes. Remove from oven, slice and eat.

Refrigerate the leftovers and make sandwiches the next day with lettuce, tomato and mayo!
